West Nile Virus Chorioretinitis With Foveal Involvement: Evolution of Lesions on Optical Coherence Tomography
نویسندگان
چکیده
Purpose: To describe the clinical course of foveal West Nile virus (WNV) chorioretinitis with longitudinal spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) imaging. Methods: Case report. Results: A 41-year-old man with diabetes mellitus presented with flashes and floaters of both eyes (OU) and decreased vision of the right eye (OD) 2 weeks after being discharged from a local hospital. He had been treated for WNV meningoencephalitis, and he recovered systemically with supportive therapy. Ophthalmic examination revealed WNV chorioretinitis bilaterally, with predominantly foveal involvement OD. His bestcorrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 8/200 OD and 20/20 of the left eye (OS). Spectral domain optical coherence tomography revealed 2 distinct lesion types—the “classic” outer retinal lesion and an intraretinal lesion. Both lesions had associated disruption of the normal outer hyperreflective retinal layers on SD-OCT. Longitudinal SD-OCT over the ensuing 6 weeks revealed a gradual reconstitution of these layers, with BCVA concurrently improving to 20/40 OD. Conclusion: We describe the consecutive findings seen on SD-OCT of retinal lesions in WNV chorioretinitis. The tomographic natural history of these lesions involved reconstitution of OCT deficits, with corresponding improvement in functional visual status.

Purpose: To analyze the correlation of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) findings with visual acuity (VA) in patients with branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 20 eyes of 20 patients with unilateral BRVO involving the macula referred to the ophthalmology clinic of Rassoul Akram Hospital. OCTA imaging was conducted for all patie...
متن کاملOcular Manifestations of West Nile Virus Infection
West Nile Virus (WNV), first isolated in 1937 in the West Nile district of Uganda, is a single-stranded RNA flavivirus. It is a member of the Japanese encephalitis serogroup. WNV infection is a zoonotic disease transmitted by a mosquito vector (type Culex), with wild birds serving as its reservoir. The disease is endemic in Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa, and North and Central America since it...
متن کاملVaricella zoster virus-associated Chorioretinitis: a case report
BACKGROUND Chorioretinitis is an unusual form of varicella zoster virus (VZV)-associated uveitis, and no report has described VZV-associated chorioretinitis using serial optical coherence tomography (OCT) images obtained during the course of resolution. CASE PRESENTATION A 61-year-old woman presented with acute, unilateral vision loss in her right eye. Her visual acuity was count fingers in t...
متن کاملOcular Disease Associated with West Nile Virus Infection
Chorioretinal involvement, frequently asymptomatic and self-limited, is common in patients with West Nile virus (WNV) infection associated with neurologic illness. A bilateral multifocal chorioretinitis, with typical clinical and fluorescein angiographic features, is the most common finding, but numerous other ocular manifestations can occur. Diabetes mellitus appears to be a potential risk fac...

Background and Objective: One of the most common extracutaneous complications in psoriasis patients is ocular complications, which is controversial concerning its effect on choroidal thickness. This study aimed to compare the psoriasis patients with healthy individuals in terms of the thickness of the choroidal layer using the optical coherence tomography technique. Materials and Methods: In t...
